Deportation (or repatriation) is the legal process by which a foreigner is formally repatriated from the United States because he or she has violated United States immigration laws.

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is the government agency responsible for dealing with legitimate immigration to the United States. A different body, known as the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), oversees judicial proceedings when a foreigner is to appear before an immigration judge.
